The desire of the church to have a beach property for recreation and training goes back to early 1960s, which led to acquisition of the Watamu Beach plot in 1965. The church then put up a number of cottages in the 12.07 acre land to provide camping facilities, recreational activities and leadership training mainly to the youth. Watamu became a household name in the 1980 – 90s because different church groups would go camping there. At a point Watamu was used as a University Campus.
The property is situated in Watamu about 88 km North of Mombasa along the Kenyan Coastal strip and less than 20 km away from Malindi Airport to the North. It fronts a clear blue lagoon beach suitable for recreation and retreat. 4 acres were allocated to Kenya Coast Field for a school, church and a Health Centre.
